GKCPA Statement Against Acts of Race-Based Violence
(June 16, 2022)

The Greater Kansas City Psychological Association (GKCPA) stands against all acts of race-based violence in our local community, region, and nation. We unequivocally and unapologetically condemn the divisive forces of hate, and inequities and injustices against all persons, families, and communities. This includes all acts of bias, disrespect, discrimination, verbal and physical abuse, harassment, threats, defacement of property, violence, and the creation of environments of fear.

As mental health clinicians, we understand that acts of hate have direct and indirect effects on human’s well-being.  GKCPA advocates that our members provide culturally affirming and trauma-informed care for all who have been directly or vicariously impacted by race-based trauma.  In alignment with the American Psychological Association (APA), we are committed to combating racism within our community and understanding our own biases.  GKCPA stands behind the APA’s resolution on “Harnessing Psychology to Combat Racism,” and the Kansas Psychological Association statements on racism and policy brutality, and support of the AAPI Community.
