Theresa Coddington Award for Leadership and Service to the Profession of Psychology

On September 11, 2022, we lost a colleague, mentor, and friend.  Dr. Theresa Coddington was a tireless advocate for psychologists at the local, state, and national level. She served as the Kansas Representative to the APA Counsel of Representatives which set the APA policy for practicing psychologists. Theresa attended many APA State Leadership Conferences and served on the Kansas Psychological Association Counsel and helped lobby for numerous legislative issues related to the practice of psychology in the state.  Throughout her career Theresa held many board positions including President of the Kansas Psychological Association and President of the Greater Kansas City Psychological Association.

Many of us currently on the Board at GKCPA would not be in these positions if it were not for Theresa. It was at this very Fall Conference where Theresa would approach a colleague, give a friendly tap on the shoulder, and make a fabulous pitch as to why you needed to be a Board member. The next thing you know you are serving on the Board!  Theresa was instrumental in GKCPA’s development and its continued presence in the Kansas City area.

It is our honor to announce that the Greater Kansas City Psychological Association plans to honor Theresa’s tireless advocacy and her impact on the field of psychology by creating the Theresa Coddington Award for Leadership and Service to the Profession of Psychology. This award will be given yearly at the GKCPA Fall Conference to a psychologist in the Kansas City area that has demonstrated an impact in the field the way Theresa did throughout her career. Though we are saddened by her loss, we are encouraged knowing that her impact and legacy will continue for years to come.
