Introduction to Practicing Pain Psychology

This program will provide an introduction to the foundational areas of competence for the practice of pain psychology. Program content will focus on treating individuals with chronic pain in the outpatient setting.

Dr. Michelle Gates
Dr. Gates is a pain psychologist with the Pain Management specialty clinic at University Health. She is also an expert panelist for the Missouri Telehealth Network ECHO on Pain Management. Dr. Gates has a PhD in Counseling Psychology from Texas Tech University and completed a health psychology post-doctoral fellowship at the University of Kansas Health System.
Objectives:
Identify 1 contextual factor that can influence patients’ pain presentation and/or response to treatment.
Define “pain catastrophizing.”
Name 1 non-opioid medication that is a first line pharmacotherapy for chronic pain.
LOCATION: Zoom Meeting. Attendees will receive the meeting link in their emails.
The deadline to register is 6 PM on February 23th.
COST: Free for GKCPA members and Students. $15 for nonmembers/guests.
This is only approved as a live, interactive CE presentation. Participants will have the same physical presence expectations through video that would be required for in-person events to gain CE credit.
